Karen Leigh Ely Walker age 58 of Knoxville, TN was born Wednesday, June 10, 1959 in Pennington Gap, VA and succumbed to cancer on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Turkey creek Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. Karen attended Pennington High School and pursued a career as a certified nursing assistant and worked in the Knoxville area. She was of the Baptist Faith. Karen was preceded in death by her parents Alonzo Tipton "A.T." "T-Boy" Ely, Jr. and Nancy Carolyn Shackleford Stapleton, grandparents Dan and Mae Lydia Tomlinson Shackleford, Alonzo Tipton Ely, Sr. and Irma Ethel Garrison Ely and her husband Brian Fletcher Walker. Surviving is her daughter Saprina Ann Harless Rhoten and husband, David Keith Rhoten and daughter Mercedes Rhoten and husband, Alex Thurston and their son Thomas Gunner Thurston all of Kingsport, TN, her sister Jacqueline Ely Mullins of Knoxville, TN, her brother Danny Tipton Ely of Kingsport, TN and sister Debra Ely McCoy and husband, Ron McCoy of Pennington Gap, VA. Niece Kristy Gail Mullins Marion and husband, Fredrick Marion and great-niece Emma Alani and great-nephew Preston Jackson of Jonesville, VA, Nephew Danny Justin Ely and wife, Melissa and great-niece Emma Selene of Kingsport, TN, Niece Lindsey Nicole Ely of Kingsport, TN. Special friends Larry Sharp of Knoxville, TN and Betty Rhoten of Church Hill, TN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA. The funeral service will be at 7:00 PM Saturday. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Sunday at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM Sunday to go to the cemetery.
