Leonard Freeman Vandergriff age 61 of the Woodway Community was born Tuesday, June 12, 1956 in Logan, WV and passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was a surgical nurse at the Lonesome Pine Hospital and a past captain and Lifelong Member of the Pennington Gap Rescue Squad. He was an outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and EMS work. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Fannie Vandergriff, brothers Wayne and Tommy Vandergriff and one sister Linda Hager. Freeman is survived by his wife, Carol Vandergriff of the home, one son Dakota Vandergriff of Woodway, VA, one daughter Kelsie Vandergriff of Woodway, VA, two sisters Gloria Atkins and husband, Jerry of Hilliard, OH, Gwenn Shephard of Keokee, VA, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA with Lane Pennington officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM Wednesday until the time of the service.
