MSG Thomas Bruce Carter, USAF, retired of Bealeton, VA was born in Keokee, VA on Friday, October 10, 1930 and passed away at his son Tom’s home on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at the age of 84 years.He had served his country during the Korean War and served in security service in Japan, Turkey, Germany and the US for 27 years. He was a Russian linguist and Analyst for 27 years and knew more about Russian aircraft than the Russians did. After retiring from military service, he worked for NSA for 15 years and then retired again. He was the Post Commander of the American Legion Post # 72 in Warrenton, VA, a member of the Moose Lodge and of the VFW. He coached Air Force high power rifle teams and taught hunter safety to youth groups. He was a lifetime NRA member and a founding member of NRA’s Whittington Center. Bruce was an avid hunter and fisherman.He was preceded in death by his parents Martha Mable and Creed Carter and his siblings Glen, Ralph and Faye.He is survived by his sons Tom Carter and wife, Kate of Warrenton, VA and Garrick Carter and wife, Kathy of New Smyrna Beach, FL. He had one daughter Patricia Ermert and her husband, Juergen of Rochester, WA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brandon Carter, Austin Nichols, Tyler Carter, Robert Zane Carter, Riley Carter, Dustin Carter, Kayla Stanley, Stefanie Carter, Nicholas Stanley, Karen, Jennifer and Thomas Ermert. Bruce is also survived by his sisters Alice Robbins of Pennington Gap, VA, Sylvia Carter of Dayton, OH and Bonnie Harnish of Bradenton, FL.

The funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA with Lowell Gardner officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM Monday until the time of the service. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. Military Honors will be conducted by the Honors Team of Shaw Airforce Base. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
