Marvin Ricky Sturgill (known to many as Poppy) age 60 of Jonesville, VA was born Sunday, March 17, 1957 in Norton, VA and passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. He was a disabled coal miner and attended the Jonesville First United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Beatrice Sturgill and one brother Johnny Sturgill. He is survived by his wife Doris Sturgill of Jonesville, VA, one son Jeremy Sturgill of Jonesville, VA, one daughter Casey Ellis and husband, Rick of Ewing, VA, five grandchildren Lucas Sturgill, Lily and Levi Ellis, Drew and Jemma Sturgill He is also survived by two brothers Randy Sturgill and wife, Jackie, Rusty Sturgill and wife, Jennifer all of Pound, VA, five sisters Rhonda Varner and husband, Eddie, Debbie Mullins and husband, Wallace all of Pound, VA, LaDonna Leftwich and husband, Harold of Mebane, NC, Dana Johnson and husband, Darryl of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lesia Baker of Mebane, NC and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Jonesville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lane Pennington officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM Saturday, until the time of the memorial service.
