Sam Henry Duff, age 72, of the Big Hill Community of Pennington Gap, VA was born in Pennington Gap on Saturday, September 15, 1945 and passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. Sam was a retired railroad engineer and had worked as a farrier in his earlier years. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran. Sam loved riding his motorcycle and horses. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ina Mae Duff and one sister, Doris Ann. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Duff of the home; one son, Joey Duff of Appalachia, VA and one daughter, Joie Cantrell and husband Chris of Pound, VA; six grandchildren, Patrick and Travis Cantrell, Dalton, Tyler and Conner Duff and Sierra D. Kiser; one great-grandson, Devin Duff; three sisters, Mary Schauer and husband Joe of Pennington Gap, VA, Betty Stewart of Pennington Gap, VA and Florence Peters of Elkton, VA. Also several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 15, 2018 in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap with Pastor Bob Richards officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. Sunday until time of services. Burial will follow at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the St. Judes Childrens Hospital or the Lonesome Pine School and Heritage Center.
