Avis Ann Edmond

Avis Ann Edmond age 91 of Jonesville, VA was born September 13, 1928 to her parents, Robert and Bertha Edmond of St. Charles, VA, and departed this world when the Lord called her home on December 17, 2019. Avis accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on April 16, 1967. She attended the Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, KY and graduated in 1973. That same year, she became a missionary for the American Missionary Fellowship and was also a founding and faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Jonesville, VA. Avis loved gardening, animals, working on her many do it yourself building projects, and making people laugh with her delightful sense of humor, but most of all she loved the Lord and telling people about Him. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and vacation bible school, along with her best friend and co-worker Isabelle Sipperley. Together they would visit the schools in Lee County and teach the young children about Jesus Christ. Avis retired after 25 years of missionary service but continued to serve the Lord faithfully until He called her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Bertha Edmond, her brother Burl Edmonds, her sister Evelyn Lewis and brother-in-law Virgil Lewis, sister Lucille Bowens and brother-in-law Hubert Bowens, and half-sister Eunice Carter. Avis is survived by her special friend and sister in Christ Isabelle Sipperley of Jonesville, VA, sister-in-law Ruby Edmonds of St. Charles, VA and many, many family members and friends that loved her dearly.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM with Pastor Roy Webb officiating. A graveside service will be at 10:00 AM Friday at Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:30 AM Friday to go to the cemetery.
