David Daniel Shirks

David Daniel Shirks age 72 of Blackwater, VA was born in St. Charles, VA Tuesday, December 31, 1946 and passed away at his home Thursday, May 16, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Mayme Lou Shirks, brothers Richard Shirks, Paul Shirks, Ralph Odell Phillips Jr. and William Howard Stapleton, sisters Helen Middleton, Margarette Green, nieces Ashley Phillips and Helen Thacker, nephews Ronnie Lee Middleton, Floyd Green and Jim Green. Daniel is survived by his fiancé, "his Love Love" Phyllis McPherson, sons James Shirks and wife, Melissa of Indiana, Jason Shirks of Appalachia, Corey Shirks of Lee Co., Christopher Bowlin of GA and David Shirks and Missy of Norton, VA, daughters Tammy Shirks of Pennington Gap, VA, Renee Abernathy and Bobby Young of Dryden, VA, Melissa Bungard and husband, Troy of Indiana, Debbie Shirks of Lee Co., and Angel Shirks of Appalachia, VA, grandsons Aaron Carter and Krysie, Carter Bungard and Ricky Daniel Carter of Dryden, VA, granddaughters Lillian and Lydia Bungard, great-grandchildren Bradlee, Keshia and Lexus Carter. He is also survived by his brothers Billy Ray Shirks of Blackwater, VA, Earl Shirks of Pennington Gap, VA, Tommy Phillips and wife, Tracy of Jonesville, VA and Gary Shirks of Kingsport, TN, sisters Betty Flanary of Kingsport, TN and Nancy Byrd of Pennington Gap, VA, special nieces Sherry Christensen and husband, Wayne, Glenda Pennington, Mary Wilder, Teresa Moore, Jackie Woodard, Chanda Davis, Becky Parks and special, special nephew Michael Shirks and a host of other nieces and nephews that he loved dearly and many extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA with Pastor Glen Hurd and Pastor Josh Olsteen officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM Sunday until the time of the service. Entombment services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM Monday to go to the cemetery.
