Eva Genette Poteet Garrett

October 11, 1929 ~ December 23, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Eva Genette Poteet Garrett, age 88, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 23, 2017 to join her beloved husband, Lawrence H. Garrett, who went to be with Jesus December 26, 1993. They were married May 1, 1947 in Harlan, KY on Lawrence’s 23rd birthday. Eva was born in Benedict, VA on October 11, 1929 (second child) to Arthur H. “Cracker” and Beulah Garrett Poteet. She attended Jonesville High School and Finished Jonesville High School in 1956. She enjoyed playing basketball in high school. She loved attending the 50+ class reunion of Jonesville High School. She was a member of the Jonesville P.T.A. while her children were in grade school and served as president one year. Eva was a former employee of Cas Walker’s Super Market and retired from Sears in 1990, both of Pennington Gap, VA to help her husband farm and raise cattle and enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all. Eva accepted Jesus as her personal Savior when she was 9 years old. She was a member of the York Chapel United Methodist Church in the York Community of Jonesville, VA. She loved participating in the Camp Meeting of the U.M. Campground since childhood, Jonesville Parish United Methodist Churches Songfest and Jonesville Parish U.M. choir. She served as delegate for the Jonesville Parish U.M. Churches to the Holston United Methodist Conference for many years. Eva was preceded in death by her beloved husband; one daughter, Angela G. Stapleton and husband F. Wayne; parents; one sister, Mary Ruth Blackburn and husband, George; father and mother-in-law, Joe Garrett and Willie Napier Garrett; three sisters-in-law, Georgia Eagle, Mary Lee Garrett and Thelma Jean Garrett; three brothers-in-law, George Blackburn, Donald Livesay and William Henry Garrett, and two half brothers-in-law, Otis Rondal Garrett and Andrew Garrett; several nephews and nieces. Eva is survived by two sons, Larry Wayne Garrett and wife, Debby of Pennington Gap, VA and Arthur Glen Garrett and wife, Sherry of Jonesville, VA; ; two brothers, Arthur M. “Dude” Poteet and wife, A. Ferrell of Jonesville, VA and H. Denver “Den” Poteet and wife, L. Sue of Pennington Gap, VA; two sisters, Doris Ann ’Dottie” Livesay of Dayton, OH and Patsy Gail Greer and husband, Bill of Dayton, OH; one sister-in-law, Vilene Dowell of Morristown, TN; four granddaughters, one grandson, ten great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and a host of loved ones and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap with Pastor Kyle Burnette officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. Wednesday until time of services. She will be laid to rest by her beloved husband, Lawrence H. Garrett in the Millers Chapel Cemetery in Jonesville, VA on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:45 A.M. Thursday for the service.
