Gary Douglas Garrett

Garry Douglas Garrett (aka Hunk) of the Stone Creek Community in Pennington Gap, VA was born on Friday, June 9, 1961 at Lee General Hospital in Pennington Gap, VA and passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. Garry was preceded in death by his parents Junior Lee Garrett and Betty June Stapleton Garrett, his brother Roger Dale "Bubba" Garrett, his sister Robin Lynn Garrett Tabor, his daughter Stephanie Ann Hoke Garrett, his maternal grandparents William "Bill" Stapleton and Joyce Mae Belcher Stapleton, paternal grandparents Maron Garrett and Mae Lundy Garrett. Garry is survived by his children; only son Garry Douglas Garrett, Jr. from Jonesville, VA, daughters Amanda Rachelle Smithson and husband, Steven of Fall Branch, TN, Jordan Kayleigh Robbins of Pennington Gap, VA and Ariel Leah Garrett of Pennington Gap, VA. He is also survive by his sister Terry Lee Garrett of Johnson City, TN, one brother Darryl Dwayne Garrett of Pennington Gap, VA, three grandchildren Emmitt Paul Garrett, and Violet Grace Garrett of Jonesville, VA and Harper Anne Smithson of Fall Branch, TN, also many loyal close friends and family who stood by him to the end. Garry lived his life with the joy of his children, his work, his hobbies and always helping others. He was a coal miner, truck driver, logger and mechanic. He touched many peoples lives and was loved as he loved others. He was kind, loving, honest, hard working and a positive motivator in others lives. If you needed a hand he was there to help. Garry loved four-wheeling, riding dirt bikes, hunting rabbits and coons. Give him a truck and some dirt, he was in his paradise. As he would say 10-4 good buddy, over and out. Pall bearers will be Terry Garrett, Darryl Garrett, Chaz Garrett, Torrey Garrett, Roger Garrett, Cody Maness, Cody Ridings and Mikhael Tabor.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Wednesday with Pastor Paul Davis, Jr. officiating. A graveside service will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at Pennington Memorial Cemetery on Hwy 421. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM Thursday to go to the cemetery.
