Glen Richard Shuler age 89 of the Right Hand Poor Valley Community in Pennington Gap, VA was born in Olinger, VA on Wednesday, December 12, 1928 and passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, VA. Glen had served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Army National Guard during 1965. He had worked as a custodian for 25 years for the First Baptist Church and the United Methodist Church of Pennington Gap, VA and he was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by one son Gary Lynn Shuler, parents Robert and Lucy Shuler, three brothers James Shuler, Harley Shuler and Judson "Judge" Shuler. Glen is survived by his wife of 69 years Bonnie Shuler of the home, two sons Richard Leo Shuler and wife, Dottie of Big Stone Gap, VA and Bill Shuler of Pennington Gap, VA, two daughters Mary Sue Shuler-Mase and husband, Joe of Corryton, TN and Debbie Short and husband, Curtis of Jonesville, VA. He is also survived by six grandchildren Stacey Lynn Kirk and husband, Bucky, Amanda Suzanne Short, Richard Leo Shuler Jr., Pamela Lee Shuler, Derek Shuler and Gary Shuler, four great-grandchildren Rylie Kirk, Tucker Kirk, Aidan Kirk, Sawyer Kirk and four sisters Pearl Newman of Jonesville, VA, Ruth Lemar of Lynchburg, VA, Bobbie Sue Link of Ohio and Arizona Egan of Church Hill, TN.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap with Micky Gibson officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM Saturday until the time of the service. A graveside service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA.Military Rites will be conducted by local VFW and the Army National Guard Honors Team.
