Lee County lost a beloved member of our community and Heaven gained an angel on Thursday, November 19, 2020, when Mrs. Billie Ruth Collins, age 95, of Pennington Gap, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Lee Health and Rehab Center with family by her side.
Billie Ruth was born May 22, 1925, in Lee County, a daughter of the late Pearl and William Carroll. She was the middle daughter of five children.
Billie Ruth was a strong, proud, good woman who was a devoted mother to her five children and a loving Grandmother to her nine grandchildren. She was the matriarch of her family, a good friend to all, and a woman who would give the clothes off her back to a friend in need. She loved listening to music, singing, and dancing. She was also known to be quite the rummy card shark.
Billie Ruth was preceded in death by her sisters Morlean Fleenor, Christene Collins, Pauline Catron, her brother, James Carroll, her son Johnny Ray Collins, and her grandsons Brian Thomas Collins and James Clayton Dameron. She is survived by four children, Barbara Houseright and her husband Frank Houseright, Billy Collins and his wife Kay Collins, Tommy Collins and his fiancé Elisha Caudill, Virginia Dameron and daughter-in-law, Beverly Collins: several grandchildren, Tonya Dechant, Becky Montgomery, Lynn Young, Kim Bosco, Jody Dameron, David Collins, and Cynthia Collins, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her too.
