Cecil Everette (Ike) Cowan

December 7, 2021

Cecil Everette (Ike) Cowan, age 78, departed this life on December 7, 2021 in Clinton, Tennessee. He was born  in the mountains of St. Charles, Virginia, where he held many fond childhood memories. After finishing high school in Indiana, Cecil joined the United States Navy and served proudly aboard the USS Interdictor, a radar picket. After his tour in the Navy, he resided for a short time in Utah, followed by the next several years in La Mirada, California, where he worked for U.S. Steel and Anchor Glass. In the mid-1990s, he returned to Utah (West Jordan), where he worked for and retired from Kennecott Copper as an electrician and supervisor. Cecil was a longtime member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). After his retirement from Kennecott, he moved back to the Appalachian mountains, settling in Andersonville, Tennessee.

Cecil was always very outgoing and never met a stranger. He loved his family, friends, neighbors and co-workers and cherished the relationships he had with all of them, past and present. He enjoyed telling stories about his Navy days, loved ones and work experiences. In his retirement, he enjoyed working around the house and yard and socializing with his neighbors. Cecil was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Louise Cowan (mother of Maren and Jackie), his parents Jesse and Mattie Cowan, his sisters Bulah Lewis and Ellen Grizzle and brother Joe Cowan. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Cowan; daughters Maren Vidal (Buzz) and Jackie Webb and stepson Rob Gullett (Rebecca); grandchildren Miranda Hardesty (Marcus), Robert Vidal, Madeline Ramirez (Oscar), Nathan Webb, Mariah Webb, Samantha Gullett, Olivia Gullett and Gabriella Gullett; and great-grandchildren Makenna Hardesty, Ivy Ramirez, Ilyana Ramirez and Hadlee Leonard.

He is also survived by his brothers Bud Cowan, Dave Cowan and Richard Cowan, sister Mable Ousley and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. Cecil will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
