Curtis Ray Short, age 65 of the Flatwoods Community was born on August 27, 1954 and passed away of cancer on May 8, 2020. He attended the Flatwoods School. He grew up with a love for working on and racing cars. He liked horseback riding and loved going coon and deer hunting. He was a farmer most of his life. He enjoyed raising and working with cattle, horses, and sheep. He worked for Charles Turner on his farm for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Patton Short and Georgia Marcum Short, and one sister, Patty Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debbie Short of the home; two daughters, Stacey Kirk and husband Bucky of Watkinsville, GA, and Amanda Short, of the home; four grandchildren, Rylie, Tucker, Aidan and Sawyer Kirk; one sister, Oneta Bollinger and husband George of Versailles, KY; three brothers, John (Joy) Short of Tazewell, TN, William Short and wife, Barbara of Rose Hill, VA, and Thomas Short of Pennington Gap, VA; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA.
