Denise Thompson Vowell Obituary

Denise Renee Thompson Vowell passed into her Heavenly Father’s arms on Saturday, January 2, 2021. From the moment she was born on October 3, 1963 she brought joy to lives of those who loved her. Her childhood was spent in Dayton, Ohio where her adventuress spirit found her constantly outside playing with her sister, neighborhood kids and cousins. Riding bikes, big wheels, playing kickball and red rover accompanied the constant laugh she shared with the world. Yearly family trips to Lake Eerie put a love of the lake into her heart which she enjoyed and spent a lot of time on throughout her life. She also loved the beach and was able to enjoy several sunrises there this past Summer where she declared "this is where I feel my soul." Her heart was as big as her smile and she shared it with everyone she met from her immediate family, to her friends, to the stranger she met waiting in line at the store. She had a spiritual gift of service and would do anything for anyone with no hesitation. She graduated from Pennington High School in 1982 and received a B.A. Degree in Education from Clinch Valley College. She taught at Dryden Elementary School for many years where her love for her students was endless. Her heart grew large when she met two beautiful children that she and her ex husband brought into their home to foster and later adopted. She always wanted to be a mom and was full of gratitude that the Lord blessed her with that title. Her heart grew even bigger with the births of her grandchildren Grayson and Peyton. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them. She loved her friends and considered them all as her second family. She had a creative talent in art and crafting and it filled her heart to create specific pieces perfect for the person receiving them as a gift. She participated in numerous craft fairs sharing her gift with people from all over the country. Her family and friends will miss her everyday, but have peace in knowing that her unwavering faith which she persistently carried even in the most intense suffering and pains that life can bring us all, now has her seated as the feet of her Lord and Savior. Denise is survived by daughter, Shauna Faith Vowell, grandson Grayson Wayne Carder (age 5) and granddaughter, Peyton Marie Carder (age 3) Pennington Gap, VA. Son Jackson Vowell of Virginia. Mother, Linda Crusenberry, Pennington Gap, VA. Father G.C. Thompson and "bonus" mom Barbara Thompson, St. Marys, Ohio. And sister Sheila Thompson Sage, Nashville, TN along with a host of aunts, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Royce and Ruby Moore, paternal grandparents George and Laura Thompson and her loving "bonus" father Bob Crusenberry.

A Celebration of Life" will be held once Virginia’s mandate on social gatherings has been lifted. For any expression of kindness in Denise’s honor the family suggest a donation be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association in honor of her dad who is battling this horrible disease.
