Edna Virginia Shuler, age 95, was born September 1, 1924 in Derby Virginia and passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at home in Knoxville, Tennessee surrounded by her family. She was a former long time resident of Pennington Gap, Virginia. She and her husband moved to Knoxville in 2003 to be close to their family .
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys Hensley Mason and John Oliver Hensley, her six siblings, Louise Lackey, Barbara Lynch, Jack Hensley, "Sonny" John Hensley, Jr., Johnny Marie Hensley and William Hensley. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Judson Lee Shuler, her son, Michael Judson Shuler and son-in-law, Gary Layne Patterson.
She is survived by three daughters, Lynedia Gregg and husband Alonzo of Knoxville, Tennessee, Brenda Patterson and husband Kenneth James of London, Kentucky, Barbara Meyer and husband Randolph of Knoxville, TN; a son, Robert Shuler and wife Bernadette of Oceanside, CA; eight grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Edna was of the Christian faith and loved God. She also loved her family second only to God. During World War II, she worked at the Roman Haas facility and over the years worked at other jobs outside the home, but caring for her family was where her heart was. She made many personal sacrifices to take care of the needs of her family.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday with Rev. Donald Harding officiating. Burial will follow at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, Virginia.
