James Moore Obituary

James Edward Moore passed away on June 29, 2021 at Holston Valley Hospital. He was born in Keokee, VA on August 2, 1943.

He is preceded in death by his parents Gilmer A. Moore and Gladys Welch Moore and a sister Nancy McElyea all of Keokee, Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Moore of the home. They had been married for 53.5 years and lived in Pennington Gap, Virginia. He is also survived by his brother in-law, Douglas McElyea. He has several nephews, J.P. McElyea, Randy McElyea, Tim McElyea, Jarid Graham, Wesley Graham, Brady Redwine, Andy Redwine, Steven Redwine and one niece Summer Redwine Hines. He also leaves behind his sister in-law and husband, Mike and Debbie Graham of Jonesvill, Virginia.

James (Jim) served his country in the U.S. Navy with two tours in Vietnam and also enjoyed playing  music in ports of Japan with other musicians. Jim was a musician for over 50 years and played guitar for events in Virginia and Tennessee and surrounding areas. He was also a heavy equipment operator and truck driver and did whatever was required of him. He was a avid animal lover and took in countless animals over his long marriage. He felt their lives were meaningful and was glad that he could help save their lives by taking them in and caring for them. He had many friends but he has mentioned of very “special friends” Phil and Teresa Bledsoe who, over the years had been good friends and neighbors and helped us out tremendously while he was ill. He also had mentioned of his friend and musical partner Procter Rogers, who he enjoyed playing shows and events with throughout the years. A special mention to Barbara Davidson, a good friend who has also shared many events, holidays and birthdays with  him and  his wife Gail he felt it was good to have true friends and counted the above as “special friends” in his life. One more life long friend and best man at his wedding is Rev. Clyde Hester he is much loved and he will see him again.

 

A graveside service will be held at Lee Memorial Gardens on Friday, July 2, 2021 with Paul Davis, Jr. officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.provincefuneralhome.com.
