Mary "Billie" (Forester) Giles

Mary "Billie" Forester Giles of Hubbard Springs, VA, passed away June 12, 2018 at the age of 102. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, three brothers, and her husband of sixty-two years, Ben Marshall Giles, formerly of Rose Hill. Mary leaves behind one sister-in-law, Nell Giles of Rose Hill, and three children and their spouses, Ben and Harriet Giles of Sperryville, VA, Barbara and Joe Taft of Kingsport, TN, and Judy and Bill Morgan of Milton, GA. In her long life she enjoyed the pleasure of five grandchildren: Marshall Taft, Tim Taft, Rob Morgan, Mary Giles Parker, and Woody Giles; thirteen great-grandchildren: Kyle, Seth, and Julia Taft; Caleb, Matthew, and Jonathan Taft; Victoria, Kate, and Will Morgan; Grace, Lila, Sam, and Ben Parker; and many nieces and nephews. After Mary and Marshall married in 1935, they left Hubbard Springs and the couple lived in Petersburg, Hillsville, Wytheville, and Abingdon, VA. Mary returned to her family home in Hubbard Springs after Marshall’s death in 1995. She was an active member of Hubbard Springs Christian Church.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Lee Health and Rehab Center in Pennington Gap, and to Mary’s caregivers in recent years, Linda Lucas, Vickie Lucas, Dorothy Henderson, Shannon Johnson, and Christine Allen. Special thanks also to Dr. J. Scott Litton for the thoughtful care he gave Mary for over 20 years.

Visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Friday, June 15, 2018 with services to follow at 3:00 PM at Hubbard Springs Christian Church, Jonesville. Officiating will be Tommy Oaks, husband of Billie’s niece, Patricia Combs Oaks, Tommy will be assisted by Billie’s great-grandson, Kyle Taft.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Hubbard Springs Christian Church Cemetery Fund.
