Ruby Madeline Ely

Ruby Madeline Ely was born in Dickenson County, Virginia on November 4th, 1928 and departed this life to her eternal home on September 9, 2021, at the home of her Caregivers, son and daughter-in- law, Windell and Phyllis Ely. Ruby’s greatest love in this life was for her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.  She loved to sing His praises and read the Bible until her eyesight began to fail. She would often tell anyone who would listen about the love of God and talk about scriptures that were on her mind. She was an active and dedicated member of the Free Pentecostal Church of God at Pucketts Creek for many years.  After the passing of her husband, Ruby moved to Florida to be near her Caregiver daughter, Belinda, until recent years. Ruby was the daughter of the late Theodore (Ted) Roosevelt Edwards and Beulah Marie Jordan Edwards.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ralph George Ely, two sisters, Trilla Anderson and Nadine Nelms, a brother, Ted Lee Edwards, grandson, Steven D. Ely, and a great granddaughter, Victoria Love Houston.

Ruby is survived by three sons, Luckie Elden Ely and wife Sherry of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Reverend Windell Darmon Ely and wife Phyllis of Proctorville, Ohio, and Dr. Macel Ely and wife Carol of Knoxville, Tennessee, her daughter, Naomi Belinda Ely of Spring Hill, Florida and foster daughter, Nettie Barnette and husband Dwain of Blackwater, Virginia.  She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Lou Lockamy of Wallace, North Carolina, Julia Caughey of Palm City, Florida, Sue Johnson of Stuart, Florida, and sister-in-law, Margie Edwards of Forsyth, Georgia. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice of Huntington for their excellent care. Services will be at the Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, Virginia on Monday, September 13 with the Reverend Jimmy Ewing Jr. officiating.  Special singing will be provided by Patricia Ewing. Visitation will be from 11:00 – 1:00 pm with the funeral immediately following and concluding with a Graveside service at Lee Memorial Gardens at Woodway. The family has requested for visitors to wear masks and to maintain social distancing. Province Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Ruby Madeline Ely.
