Thomas McKnight Obituary

Thomas “Allen” McKnight, age 64, of Pennington Gap, Virginia was born February 27, 1956 in Pennington Gap and passed away January 31, 2021 at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.

Allen worked as a coal miner for 15 years before becoming a Site Supervisor with Hill Brothers Construction for five years.  He founded A & M Construction Company in 1990, where he served as the owner/operator until his retirement in 2015.  He was a lifelong resident of Lee County, Virginia.  Allen enjoyed hunting and fishing, and time spent with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Palmer and Luria McKnight, two brothers – Billy “Monroe” McKnight and Randall McKnight, and two sisters – Lavelle Sanders and Ivan Souders.

Allen is survived by his wife Susie McKnight, of the home, two sons – Mark Allen McKnight and wife Jodi of Evansville, Indiana, and Marty Thomas McKnight and wife Jenny of Knoxville, Tennessee, six grandchildren – Braelynn McQueen, Rylie McKnight, Taylor McKnight, Rody McKnight, Lexie McKnight, and Ryne Overstreet.  He is also survived by one brother – Dallas McKnight and wife Marian of Woodway, Virginia, two sisters – Louise Garrison of Appalachia, Virginia and Priscilla Beaver and husband Kenneth of Powhatan, Virginia, and two sisters-in-law, Barbara McKnight of Keokee, Virginia and Wanda McKnight of Jonesville, Virginia.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 noon on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, Virginia. A funeral service will follow at the McKnight Family Cemetery in Keokee, Virginia with Bill Moore officiating. Due to covid-19 state regulations, only 10 people inside the funeral home and at the cemetery,  those attending the visitation and funeral are required to wear masks/facial covering. Social distancing guidelines will also be in place.
