Tommy Joe Holmes was born in Keokee on January 14, 1955 and joined his family in heaven on October 4, 2021 following a courageous battle with cancer. He departed this life with his loving wife of 46 years, Connie, by his side. He was a retired coal miner of 35 years where he worked for Westmoreland Coal Company and Alpha Natural Resources. He loved his grandchildren and his family with his whole heart. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. We will forever remember him patting his chest and telling us “I got to go.”
Survivors are his wife Connie Tucker Homes of the home, daughter Christy M. Clark (Brandon) of Kingsport, TN, son Jason Holmes (Rachel) of Big Stone Gap, VA, grandchildren Harley Hood, Alley Clark, Dalton Holmes, Talon Holmes, and Shyla Holmes. He is also survived by his brother and sister in law Roy and Brenda Holmes of North Benton, OH, sister in law Doris Holmes of Keokee, VA, brother and sister in law Bob and Teresa Fleming of Jenkins, KY, Johnny and Eileen Jabroski of Cincinnati, OH. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers.
He is preceded in death by his parents Earnest Theodore Holmes and Gladys Bledsoe Holmes, one grandson Noah Alexander Clark, brothers Johnny Holmes and Gary Holmes, nephews Johnny “Hopper” Holmes and Joey Clinton Holmes and a niece Jackie Holmes.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at his home in Keokee, VA.
