Elder Wayne Poteet, 86 of Jonesville, VA passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, TN, after a long battle with heart disease. He was born March 10, 1933 at Jonesville, to the late George and Rosa Lee Osborne Poteet.
He accepted Christ at a young age and was ordained to preach the gospel in 1959. He was a member of Pond View Primitive Baptist Church of Jonesville. A true and faithful servant, Wayne pastored churches in both Lee and Wise Counties until his health began to fail in 2012.
He was a graduate of Jonesville High School Class of 1951, after which he served four years in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he began a career as Electrical Lineman at Powell Valley Electric of Jonesville, also working for TVA and several Electrical Contractors in both Tennessee and Kentucky. He served Lee County as an Extension Agent for three years and ended his work as a Long-Haul Trucker for England Manufacturing based in Tazewell, TN. Wayne was a member of the Wynn Lodge #221 and a duel member of McPherson Lodge #99 AF & AM.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his beautiful wife of 46 years, Juanita Baker Poteet, and his sister, Doris Poteet Baker.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis Poteet of Jonesville and David Poteet and wife Linda of Enon, OH; three daughters, Debra Poteet of Charlotte, NC, Betty Jo Poteet of Jonesville, Melinda White and husband Bill of Powhatan, VA; one granddaughter, Renee Poteet of Tampa, FL; three grandsons, Wesley Poteet of Tampa, FL, Joshua Poteet of Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, TX, Micah Poteet and wife Anna of Springfield, OH; and his precious great-grandson Daniel Poteet; along with a host of family, friends and neighbors.
Military Graveside services will be held at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at 10 a.m. Committal services will follow.
